****Purpose and Scope:
Responsible for the strategic leadership and management of a National Field Medical Science Liaison (MSL) team and overall Astellas business objectives.
Responsible for representing Field Medical in Regional Core Medical Team for a compound and provide strategic and operational guidance as well as medical insights coming from the geography's field.
Provide strategic and scientific input into strategic medical plan development and build functional therapeutic level objectives for MSL execution, e.g., Key Performance Indicators, in the field that support the medical plan.
Responsible for right sizing and strategic deployment of MSL teams through the product life cycle management in alignment with product prioritization.
Provide field medical perspective within and across geographies for medical plans and brand plans.
Essential Job Responsibilities:
Field Medical Leadership
Provides strategic leadership and direction across all functions of the MSL department to ensure all field medical deliverables are based on scientific validity, clinical importance, fiscal feasibility and aligned to both the Core Medical Plans and local business needs.
Serves as a recognized Medical Affairs authority by maintaining and communicating up-to-date knowledge of industry standards and practices, keeps abreast and proactively responds to market trends and/or shifts in the external medical affairs environment to predict and maximize positive impact to Astellas.
Agility to recognize and adapt to traditional and emerging external medical stakeholders, i.e., payers, patient advocacy groups etc., throughout the life cycle of the product.
Ensure filed medical team is equipped to build and maintain strong external stakeholder engagement activities.
Provide insights back into the organization
Provide meaningful field medical value metrics, quality assurance controls, and operational assessment/analysis plans relevant to MA activities and deliverables.
Build a strong working relationship/partnership with affiliate TA leads to ensure alignment of field medical activities to the TA strategic plan.
Proactively identifies and develops necessary processes and continuous framework enhancements to ensure consistent delivery of strategic scientific/medical leadership
Scientific and Interaction Expertise
Knowledgeable on Astellas' therapeutic areas, key compounds, disease states, and associated studies and publications.
Knowledgeable on competitor landscape for Astellas' key compounds.
Proficient in scientific exchange to foster KEE relationships, to understand stakeholder needs in order to deliver medical plan, and to develop actionable medical insights.
Represent Voice of the Medical Community, based on the field interactions, to MA and cross divisional peers, as applicable.
People Leadership
Participate in development of Annual Divisional Objectives across geographies in cooperation with senior leadership.
Communicate Annual Divisional Objectives, identify field medical strategies and drive implementation by field medical teams.
Inspires the MA department, gains commitment to the MA value narrative and motivates them to consistently deliver a standard of excellence and superior results.
Mentors people managers on attracting, hiring, developing and retaining a high-performing MSL department.
Supports growth and development experiences that prepares the department for broader responsibilities and creates initiatives to ensure the retention of strong performers.
Provides in field coaching and timely feedback to ensure a productive, professional and motivated team and a highly valued work environment.
Foster a culture of innovation, teamwork and accountability with the Medical Affairs department to ensure commitment to MA excellence to attract high performing talents.

Qualifications
Required
Educational Background:
Master's Degree in Health-Related Sciences
Years of Experience:
Minimum 10 years scientific/medical experience in research-based pharmaceutical industry in the areas of
