MBA grads facing most challenging job market in decades
It used to be that going to college and getting a degree was a great way to be sure that you have a good job. However, as more and more people got college degrees, it started to be important to have an MBA in order to get a good job. It is still a great idea to have an MBA, because that means that you are much more qualified for the jobs that you want for the manager jobs, the manager careers, and other jobs in management, but there are other problems that you are going to be facing now, that you have never been able to have to face before.
Something that is important to think about now is the job market itself. Although you are going to be looking at having your MBA, which means that you are qualified for the manager jobs and for the other types of manager careers, you are going to be entering the work force in the most difficult time ever. This is something that is extremely difficult for many people to understand, and it ends up leading to quite a few problems. For lots of people, it means that you are going to have to face the fact that it might be much more difficult than you think to get the right job.
It is important to think about the reasons that you are going to be facing the toughest job market in years. The nation is going through a terrible recession, and many places are forced to close or to lay off people who have been working for them for years. This means that people who have years of experience on top of their MBA degrees are being laid off from the positions that are no longer there. Because many companies are closing and many others are laying off help to try to make ends meet, there are simply less jobs that are available out there for anyone. What this also means is that all of the manager jobs and other manager careers that are open are going to be open to you, as a recent MBA grad, as well as open to all of the people who have recently been laid off.
In some situations, you are going to get lucky and the job will be looking for people who are fresh from their MBA for several reasons – you have the most up to date education that is available, and you also will be working for a smaller salary than those that have been working for a long time. However, most of the time, experience is going to trump your degree when it comes to manager jobs, and therefore people who have years of experience are going to be filing into even the most entry level jobs.
Therefore, it is important to know that as you leave your MBA, you are going to be looking at the toughest job market in a long time. There are several things that you can do to prepare. Make sure that you have something that can set you apart from the other applicants. Also, be prepared to be on the job hunt for quite some time, as it is maybe going to take you awhile to find a job.
