This role requires a strong leader to manage and develop a high performing Analytical Development team, ensuring that the team is adequately trained, guided, and motivated. The role will oversee the development of analytical methods for multiple projects, as well as the management of a team of scientists as they provide this range of analytical method developmental services, supporting a range of projects across the portfolio.  The role will ensure that methods are delivered in a timely manner, that satisfies both internal and external customer requirements. Additionally, the position requires proactive communication of results and issues within the projects to management and customers (internal and external) with the highest of professional standards.  The role will ensure that the department stays current on new technologies applicable to testing and release of phase-appropriate clinical product, suitable for transfer to a regulated environment. The role provides scientific and technical input to various project teams and works closely with the analytical chemistry team to support method transfer, method validation, method troubleshooting, and method optimization.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

n•    Build a high functioning and motivated team through hiring and mentoring of all team members.
n•    Ensure that the analytical development function is appropriately resourced (staff skills, instrumentation, and technological know-how) for the number of projects and their required turn-around time. 
n•    Manage and mentor direct reports and coordination of lab functions/resources to ensure that a suite of chemical and bioanalytical test methods are developed to the highest standards and prescribed project deadlines.
n•    Ensure chemical and bioanalytical test methods are developed in compliance with all quality & regulatory requirements, sufficient to meet the phase of the project.
n•    Play a significant leadership role in the development, operation and evaluation of portfolio projects and their test method development requirements.
n•    Partner with cross functional project constituents to ensure a timely delivery of analytical methodologies in alignment with project timelines.
n•    Provides significant leadership at a managerial and committee level to develop, implement, and synchronize strategies thereby eliminating project wastage and successfully deliver against project demand.
n•    Manage the analytical development budget and to keep ahead of the latest chemical and bioanalytical test methodologies in the industry.  
n•    Establish, develop, and drive processes, systems, and people to maximize the team’s output and productivity. 
n•    Provide leadership and mentoring especially as it relates to the improvement of technical capability, morale, and productivity of the department’s scientists.  Develop and implement plans for organizational development.
n•    Contribute to and author analytical testing strategies with sound scientific rationales that support successful regulatory outcomes.

MINIMUM EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS
n•    Bachelor’s Degree in a Life Science discipline with at least 10 to 15 years of experience working in a biopharmaceutical development environment 
n•    Extensive experience in phase-appropriate cGMP compliance, method validation, and analytical method technology transfer.
n•    Experienced in the running of laboratories that cover chemical and bioanalytical techniques. 
n•    Broad industry experience encompassing production and laboratory operations
n•    Experience at an FDA regulated site an advantage.
n•    Excellent verbal and technical writing skills
n•    Plan project tasks effectively, prioritize, keep to timeline, and multi-task.
n•    Demonstrated ability to think independently, contribute and collaborate with cross functional project teams, troubleshoot effectively, and solve complex technical issues.
