What We’re Looking For
As a member of both the 2U Executive Team and the Platform Leadership Team, the EVP, Head of Engineering provides technical leadership in all aspects of the business. Platform is defined by 2U as the combination of technology, product management, educational services, and our educational catalog. The successful candidate communicates with employees, stakeholders and customers to develop 2U’s overall technology strategy and ensuring technologies are developed and used efficiently, profitably, and securely.
The position works directly under 2U’s Chief Platform Officer and will act as both a technology and business expert, making decisions that will impact the current and future operations of the company.
The Engineering team is comprised of ~275 individuals with responsibility for the following areas: P
latform engineering, Website development, Cloud systems architecture and development,
Cybersecurity, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), DevOps, Data Engineering and Analytics, Project Management, etc.
Responsibilities
Set a vision for how technology will be used in the company
Develop technical aspects of 2U’s strategy to ensure alignment with business goals
Maintain a continuous dialogue throughout the Platform business leadership and stakeholders to ensure alignment across short and long-term deliverables that enhance the competitiveness of 2U
Lead a team of senior Engineering leaders in the development and execution of technology strategies
Ensure that business objectives and goals are fully understood, iterated and executed by the Engineering organization and that the objectives are met according to expectations, on budget, and on time
Develop and manage technology budget and available resources
Collaborate and provide thought leadership on technology opportunities, integrations, and transformative ideas aligned with the 2U business
Use stakeholders’ feedback to inform necessary improvements and adjustments to technology
Lead the consolidation of 2U’s technology platforms
Monitor KPIs and Engineering budgets to assess technological performance
Communicate technology strategy to stakeholders and employees
Qualifications and Skills
Proven experience as a Head of Engineering, CTO, or similar leadership role with 10 years experience leading large and diverse engineering or product organizations with evolving needs
10 years of leadership experience in an environment with robust technical consumer products and constant innovation
Deep expertise with modern technologies, cloud, software systems architecture, cybersecurity, SRE, dev ops, project management, data engineering and analytics
Strategic thinking and strong business acumen
Broad experience leading a geographically dispersed team, hybrid work, and leveraging vendor relationships
A willingness to create, identify and leverage cutting-edge technologies at an enterprise level
Demonstrable Process Management experience in an SDLC environment of continual change
Must be accustomed to working and managing in a matrix organizational model
Experience with budgets and business planning
Excellent communication skills
Strong leadership skills
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Business Administration, Mathematics, Engineering or a related major or equivalent work experience.
Experience managing open source projects is a plus
Education Technology industry experience is required

In Colorado, the anticipated range for base salary for this role is $225,000-$370,000 with potential bonus and equity eligibility. Note: The final compensation for this position may consider factors including the geographic location where the work is performed (candidate’s assigned office) and prior work experience of the candidate.
