Director of Fiscal and Facility Operations
. This position is an active member of the Housing Leadership Team and provides independent operational and financial oversight and leadership for all Housing business ventures. Additionally, this position oversees the facility operations for Housing. The Director develops and implements complex individual operating plans, unit and departmental budgets, all business assessments, and strategic planning.
Using data from unit operating plans, the Director of Fiscal and Facility Operations oversees the development of the Housing operating plan. This position is responsible for the $13,000,000 annual Residence Life revenue budget and all financial reports related to the operation of a complex financial system, including three (3) distinct profit centers and third-party vendor contracts. This position is also responsible for overseeing the financial health of the Griz Card Center.
Additional Responsibilities:
Suggest refinements to processes and reporting needs and implement changes in collaboration with the Housing Leadership Team
Provide professional daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and yearly assessments
Reconcile data in Housing financial systems
Develop and manage yearly reports on budgets, capital, income statements, operating revenue, and expenditures, and ensure the integrity of internal and external financial reporting to assure profitability and a secure bottom line
Provide direction for the billing and collection procedures of Housing
Become the Housing “expert user” regarding all Residence Life procurement activity
Assist with all repair and renovation projects, major equipment purchases, small and large equipment inventory management, and capital projects
Develop (or direct the development) and manage the annual repair, equipment, and renovation plans
Represent the Executive Director in their absence in all areas related to budget, facilities, and other areas of the UM Housing operation as needed
Develop and manage all Housing financial contracts and memorandums
Directly supervise the Associate Director of Facilities and the Custodial supervisor and indirectly supervise the maintenance staff of painters, carpenters, plumbers, electricians, and grounds crew, and the custodial operations in the residence halls and the apartment areas along with additional temporary summer staff
Develop comprehensive training programs and tracking programs for all maintenance and custodial staff members annually
Develop tracking systems in maintenance and custodial operations to determine on-going capital expenditures and inventories
Serve and manage as StarRez Housing Management System expert
Work with Associate Director of Operations and Housing Occupancy Manager to provide guidance for residence hall occupancy management
Oversee the departmental emergency management plan and update as required
Serve as the appeals officer for all charge appeals for the residence halls and the apartments
Serve as the primary appeal officer and committee chair on rental appeals for the apartments
Evaluate and recommend improvements for policies, procedures, education opportunities, and issues of campus safety

Position Details
Position is full-time, 1.0 FTE, MUS Contract and includes a comprehensive and competitive benefits package

Required Skills
Considerable and current knowledge of finance theory, budgeting, and accounting
Ability to react quickly to changing business circumstances
Detail orientation and advanced organizational skills
Knowledge of or ability to learn Star Rez computerized Residence Life System requirements
Professional upper management, supervisory, leadership, and training experience
Ability to envision, develop, and implement complex financial models, reports, projections, strategies, and business plans
Ability to participate in benchmarking and goal setting for a $15,000,000 collegiate housing operation
Ability to communicate and work with a diverse group of internal and external customers and business partners, and remain respectful and professional when dealing with individuals throughout the course of highly stressful circumstances
Conflict resolution and negotiation skills
Strong computer skills and experience with Microsoft Office, spreadsheets, time accounting software, point of sale devices, and computerized housing management systems
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s Degree in Higher Education, College Student Personnel Administration, Public Administration, or a relevant field
Seven (7) years of progressive experience in a housing management position
Strong knowledge of budget and facilities management
