Where you fit in?
Sectors and Decarbonisation (S&D) is at the forefront of Shells commitment to become a Net zero emissions organisation and a leading supplier of decarbonisation solutions, working customer back, sector by sector to develop commercially viable decarbonisation pathways for hard to abate sectors such as Aviation, Marine, Commercial Road Transport, construction & Road and Agriculture & Forestry.
The Product Manager for off-highway electrification will play a vital role in ensuring us to decarbonise our customers. The role reports to the General Manager off-highway electrification, within the Emerging Sectors & Integration (ESI) VP’ship which has dual remits across the S&D organisation:
Identifying, incubating, and scaling Shell’s entry and/or expansion into new and nascent sectors where Shell has limited to no market presence. This organization will be responsible for scoping the sectors decarbonization needs and developing commercial pathways that allow for Shell’s successful and profitable entry into these sectors (i.e. Mining)
Owning specific cross-sectoral activities that leverage scale and avoid duplication of similar activities across multiple sectors - e.g. marketing, digital, carbon management framework and ultimate potential program - to support delivery for the wider Sectors and Decarbonization organization
The off-highway electrification programme is a Shell-led multi-party consortium aiming to develop products for the electrification of off-road heavy-duty vehicles. Starting with the mining and marine sectors; it is anticipated that this will lead to development of solutions to decarbonise customers across hard to abate transport sectors.
What’s the role?
The Electrification Product Manager will play a key link role in this mission, liaising between sector sales/marketing teams and the electrification product development, technical and commercial development teams – translating customer needs into product design, ensuring solutions meet customer needs and be the voice of the customer in product evolution.
The Product Manager will act as the voice of the customer and be a critical link in leading cross sectoral growth of our product and service lines and in turn positioning Shell as a leading provider of decarbonation solutions for the hard to abate sectors.
Key Responsibilities
Leads product and solution development by translating customer needs and insights and a deep understanding of electrification needs of off-highway customers into effective business and deployment models while working across Shell, industry partners, and other external stakeholders.
Accountable for external partnerships within product category: identify product gaps, originate new partner relationships, lead negotiation of applicable partnership agreements, and manage ongoing partnership contracts necessary for product delivery.
Research and monitor existing customer, industry partners, and technical developments to assure continuous alignment of product-market fit.
Lead evolution of the product to ensure ongoing commercial viability and technical integrity, in line with the needs of Shell’s customers.
Engages PTX, Marketing, and other internal stakeholders to generate impactful customer collateral and sales aids supporting product marketing within target customer segments (e.g. power point presentations, workshops, webinars)
Develops fit for purpose sales and operation practices supporting rapid customer adoption, actively manages the training of sales and operations team through implementation.
Set processes and maintain standards for performance assurance including tracking of customer satisfaction and product P&L.
Direct the work of a distributed group of analysts responsible for technical and energy economics of prospective projects using internally developed or externally sourced and validated tools as appropriate for product category.
Creates performance assurance reports to regularly communicate product performance to management team and product partners.
What we need from you
Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related discipline is required and MBA preferred.
Proven experience in product management
A track record of initiating, structuring, and executing commercial agreements with product vendors and industry partners.
A deep technical understanding of the range of the relevant technologies within the electric vehicle charging and onsite energy categories.
Cross-business collaboration experience. Demonstrated prior work with multiple disciplines is required (technical, commercial, financial, legal, regulatory, external affairs)
