Summary
The Technical Director provides leadership and management of the audio, visual, and lighting needs of Christ Fellowship. This includes recruiting, managing, and shepherding worship tech volunteers, maintaining campus-wide AVL-equipped rooms, supporting CF ministries’ technical needs, and overseeing any AVL needs for outside events.
This is a full-time, salaried exempt position. As such, the employee is expected to manage their workload and time with their supervisor. A typical workweek for this position is 40-50 hours, with the expectation that most of the work will occur in the office during normal business hours.
Working Relationships
Reports to the Production Director; manages the worship tech volunteer team; works closely with the Worship Pastors and other CF ministries by providing AVL support for worship services and special events; and develops and maintains working relationships with vendors and contractors that are key to the maintenance, operation, and upgrades of all AVL systems.
Key Responsibilities
Set Worship Center stage for weekend services.
Provide tech support as needed to the various worship venues.
Fulfill systematic maintenance and testing of AVL equipment, as required.
Manage, shepherd, and train worship tech staff, contractors, and volunteers to ensure all worship tech positions are properly covered.
Work with Production Director to manage and maintain live video stream and all technologies that encompass it.
Assist with design and implementation of stage sets.
Maintain a working knowledge of church-wide lighting, sound, and video systems, including ability to operate and train all tech positions.
Cultivate relationships with AVL vendors.
Oversee church-wide AVL design and integration.
Manage the necessary upgrades and repairs to church-wide AVL technologies.
Support CF ministry events, as required.
Stay current on new technologies and industry trends; make recommendations to supervisor.
Maintain all AVL equipment inventories.
Help monitor/track budget(s) in a manner reflecting good stewardship.
Fulfill other responsibilities as assigned by supervisor.
Specific Skills/Strengths
Fluent in English and Spanish, preferred.
Experience with video production, preferred.
Deep understanding of sound, lighting, and video presentation, required.
Working knowledge of both PC and Mac computer systems, including common networking protocols in a production environment (AVoIP Standards e.g. Dante, Qsys., Artnet/DMX), required.
Experience with digital mixing consoles, required.
Strong interpersonal skills, required.
Experience/Education Desired
Dante certification level 2 or higher, required.
Qsys certification, required.
CTS certification, preferred.
Work Environment and Physical Demands
This person must have excellent hearing and manual dexterity. They must be able to exchange accurate information when working with others and be able to work at a desk operating a computer and other technical equipment, at least 50 percent of the time, as well as move about the facility to meet with people and access files, other information, operate office machinery, etc. This person must also be able to lift at least 75 pounds and maneuver it (i.e. twist, push, pull, etc.) and be able to move heavy loads by hand and other similar actions periodically throughout the workweek and be comfortable operating a lift and other heavy machinery including operating lifts and working at heights of 45 ft.
