SUMMARY:

The primary responsibility of this position is to support the scope and budget generation, design, construction, and project management of large-scale capital projects within the Prepared Foods manufacturing and the Warehousing & Transportation networks.

This position inspires and leads a team of Refrigeration Engineers and reports directly to the Director, Engineering with Discipline Engineering responsibilities and will focus primarily on Refrigeration Engineering functions.

ESSENTIAL CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Refrigeration subject matter expert for Prepared Foods group.

Areas of coverage include: Industrial ammonia and Freon screw and centrifugal compressors and associated components, vessels, surge drums, engine rooms, spiral freezers, holding freezers, blast freezers, refrigerated warehouses, coolers, evaporators, condensers, heat exchangers, piping, PSM safety programs, direct expansion systems, pumped recirculated systems, controls, roof top units (RTUs), Critical Process Air systems with or without dehumidification.

Analyzes system performance and develops improvement and energy conservation opportunities.

Ensure projects, initiatives, and processes are in conformance with the organization’s established policies and objectives while meeting all code and regulatory requirements.

Establish and maintain Refrigeration specifications, standards, and other technical information including innovative technologies to improve sustainability and energy efficiency.

As needed, provide Refrigeration designs for new projects, evaluate existing Refrigeration systems, and recommend changes or additions as deemed necessary, prepare cost estimates and implementation plans.

Interface daily with Prepared Foods Engineers, Plant, and Warehouse/Transportation network team members.

Monitor, report, and distribute reporting metrics to cross-functional teams regarding the status and progress of team projects.

Review project CIRs for validity, scope, design QA, and network impact.

Review refrigeration P&ID, drawing and bid submittals and assist in performing technical bid analyses.

Provides technical advice to plants and assists with advanced refrigeration troubleshooting.

Assists plants and warehouses with PSM action item resolution and PSM documentation updates.

Review project metrics for reasonableness, improve project control through process improvement and user training.

Guide and assist operations and engineering teams to adhere to Tyson Prepared Foods Engineering design specifications.

Create ad-hoc reports, analyses, and presentations as requested/needed.

Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS


EDUCATION: Accredited Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering, PE license preferred

EXPERIENCE: Minimum 5-7 years of applicable engineering experience with food industry experience preferred.

COMPUTER SKILLS: Advanced knowledge and working use of computer programs, including spreadsheets, databases.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS: Ability to communicate and report out to Managers, VPs, SVPs, and the Prepared Foods Leadership Team on an as needed basis.

PREFERRED COMPUTER SKILLS: CAD, Revit, and/or other design software systems


SPECIAL SKILLS:

Must be capable of working on multi-faceted Refrigeration projects of any magnitude.

Demonstrated repeated ability to complete projects on time and on budget.

Detail oriented individual with strong analytical skills.

Ability to work independently with minimal direction. Strong organizational and time management skills.

Influential leadership skills a must.

TRAVEL:

Up to 50%, multi-day stays required; overnight stays required; ability to egress uneven surfaces in construction and plant environments safely and easily.
