This role will be responsible for category management, strategic sourcing and contract management for all indirect categories. This role will be responsible for leading all upstream category management, strategic sourcing and contract management for all indirect categories, managing a total spend of $4.4 billion. This position will leverage the talent of the procurement team and drive program compliance in Category Management, Strategic Sourcing and Supplier Management creating value for the entire Tyson enterprise. This position will drive sustainable strategies that will actively seek to reduce and/or control costs for raw materials, supplies and services while increasing efficiencies for the business. This leader will work closely with the leadership of Business Units, R&D, FSQA, Operations and Shared Service organizations to provide innovative new products and services to meet business objectives.
Oversee Category Management and Strategic Sourcing resources responsible for a wide portfolio of complex and/or critical Direct/Indirect categories to Tyson
Establish and deliver performance goals for portfolio of Direct/Indirect categories representing a significant amount of spend
Own and achieve value creation and supplier targets established for the function
Monitor and report on progress towards achieving functional goals/target metrics; proactively address performance gaps or issues potentially impacting success as needed
Understand and manage Total Cost of Ownership at the Direct/Indirect level
Drive and deliver continuous process improvement and cost reduction
Oversee management of executive-level business stakeholder relationships on an ongoing basis to ensure customer satisfaction across all Direct/Indirect categories
Build and foster strong business relationships at mid to executive-level to increase influence over total Direct/Indirect category spend
Oversee critical, executive-level Supplier Relationships and support Supplier Business Reviews for Direct/Indirect categories
Lead discussions with critical suppliers around long-term objectives and strategies, ongoing market trends, innovation and technology advances, and potential investment decisions.
Support senior-level R&D management on innovation, optimization and/or new product development efforts as appropriate for Direct/Indirect categories
Review and provide guidance on Category Management strategies as needed; coach Category Managers on best practice to enable growth in skill set
Drive consistency in Category Management process execution and quality of outputs / service level to business stakeholders across all categories
Oversee prioritized portfolio of projects for Direct/Indirect in the near and long term
Oversee and advise on value generating projects based on complexity, resources, risk, time to implement, and estimated financial impact for Direct/Indirect categories
Oversee strategic sourcing projects for supplier selection/optimization to execute Category Management vision and strategies for Direct/Indirect
Provide guidance and/or engage with Strategic Sourcing Managers throughout RFx process and communications with suppliers as needed
Drive consistency in Strategic Sourcing process execution and quality of outputs / service level to business stakeholders across all categories
Coordinate with Upstream Support Leadership on execution of contracts, management of supplier performance and risk and spend data
Maintain strong understanding of Direct/Indirect category dynamics (current market, pricing, cost drivers, industry and supplier variables); communicate and share knowledge with Category and Sourcing Managers
Supervise and coach team members to drive continuous improvement of performance and further growth/development of individual skill sets and knowledge
Work collaboratively with other functional areas of Procurement as appropriate to add value
Experience in Contract Lifecycle Management tools desirable
Requirements:
Education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience. Formal certification in Project Management (from PMI or equivalent Project Management Association) desirable.
Experience: 15 years’ experience in one or more of the following skills: Strategic Planning, Source-to-Pay, Procurement Process/Governance, Spend Analytics, Category Management, Strategic Sourcing and Supplier Management
15 years’ experience in Sourcing Direct/Indirect Spend, OR Procurement Leadership. 15 years analytical analysis with procurement and supply chain focus
Computer Skills: Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite. Experience in spreadsheet, database, and statistical analysis. Familiarity with eProcurement Source-to Pay-tools desirable
Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required. Strong presentation and negotiation skills are required
Special Skills: Senior leadership experience with exceptional interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively with the team and all levels and areas of the organization. Senior experience in Source-to-Pay transformation. Strong understanding of procurement governance, processes and policies. Strong analytical and interpretive skills to recognize, comprehend and assess data, complex issues, and industry information. Strong ability to present complex topics in an effective and concise manner to broad-based audiences including various levels of management. Excellent customer service, problem solving and decision-making skills. Strong negotiation skills and demonstrated conflict resolution skills. Strong ability to identify, assess and mitigate risk. Effective and proven strategic planning ability. Demonstrated ability to handle multiple tasks and assignments simultaneously. Strong change management skills promote a shared vision and inspires others to embrace new opportunities. Familiarity with business and contract law as applied to supplier relationships.
