Director of Public Relations, Interactive Brokers
The Director, Public Relations is responsible for leading media relations activities and managing the award submission program. The ideal candidate will have experience managing and executing PR campaigns in multiple geographies, a proven track record of successfully increasing media exposure, and significant experience in raising company positions in industry awards, surveys, and rankings. The Director of Public Relations must have deep knowledge of the financial industry and strong existing relationships with financial reporters and editors, as well as the ability to quickly establish new relationships with various key media contacts. Experience in corporate communications for a public company is vital, as this role will support all aspects of external communication.
The successful candidate will be passionate and results-driven, with a roll-up-your-sleeves, get-it-done attitude, and a strong sense of urgency, tempered by an uncompromising commitment to accuracy and quality. The candidate must display a positive, professional attitude and work with integrity, maturity, and dependability, reaching decisions after a careful, thorough analysis of all relevant facts.
Key Responsibilities
Plan and execute a proactive, flexible media and PR program, including drafting press releases, statements, and other collateral; developing and maintaining media lists; drafting and conducting media pitches; and ensuring that projects stay on track for time-sensitive delivery.
Oversee, manage, and administer the firm's awards, rankings, and survey submission program, identifying and tracking submission opportunities; responding to survey requests; and creating, drafting, organizing, and facilitating nominations, submissions, and references.
Handle media enquiries and conduct media outreach, taking a thoughtful approach to targeting appropriate outlets, conducting research, networking, and meeting regularly with reporters to bolster relationships and identify new opportunities.
Write presentations, articles, media programs and other materials for effective, timely external communications.
Respond to and coordinate external interview requests, ensuring the participation of appropriate internal management, and proactively identifying additional media and conference opportunities.
Develop and implement dynamic, creative communications strategies that amplify our impact with the right audiences, using traditional and non-traditional channels.
Establish and maintain relationships with key media stakeholders around the world, including journalists, editors, producers, and publishers across all digital, broadcast, print and social channels, centered on, but not limited to, business/financial and related trade media.
Develop and maintain a deep understanding of our products and capabilities, as well as financial instruments, innovations, the financial markets, current events, PR performance metrics, industry panels and events, hot topics and the ways IBKR is affected by, and can influence, industry trends.
Willingly assume additional responsibility and roles on the team as needed, readily helping other team members.
Qualifications
Minimum qualifications:
Minimum of 10 years professional communications experience within a financial services environment/asset management firm (institutional and/or retail), or public relations/strategic communications agency with specific financial services client experience.
Deep understanding of the brokerage industry, investment products, capital markets and issues facing financial advisors, as well as institutional and retail investors.
Exemplary proofreading and copy-editing skills, including mastery of processes that ensure that all communications are accurate, clear, and professional, and are reviewed and approved by all appropriate parties in a timely manner.
First-rate communication skills, both verbal and written
, with a keen ability to capture, distill and accurately describe our services.
Strong project management, time management and organizational skills; the agility to work quickly and effectively, multi-task, and react and respond, sometimes in real time, to shifting priorities and requests from leadership at all levels.
Proven track record of working directly with senior management on communications campaigns, awards planning, product launches, project tracking and hands-on execution.
Experience and confidence interacting with key members of the news media.
B.A. or B.S. with an excellent academic record; Master’s Degree in Communications, Business Administration, or Journalism preferred.
Qualifications for success:
Existing global financial media contacts are a strong plus.
Ability to lead and take ownership of projects, manage them effectively and smoothly handle and triage multiple projects with complex deliverables, and competing deadlines.
A high-energy, independent self-starter, who takes the initiative, has good judgment, and evinces exemplary leadership skills.
Commitment to teamwork, with an outstanding work ethic and the ability to lead while also pitching in and helping others in a team-oriented service environment.
