Description
The Associate Director will lead the Application Modernization to deliver on end-to-end execution. The Associate Director requires a solid understanding of how organization capabilities interrelate across departments, people leadership/development skills, and extensive software engineering delivery experience.
The Associate Director is required to understand the application business functions, it's value proposition as it relates to it's larger architectural ecosystem, and to rationalize application disposition considering these factors. All will be done within the backdrop of adhering to industry best practices in implementation of Cloud principles.
They will direct modernization activities aligned to a series of IT architectural standards and will position solutions to operate optimally within Humana's environment. Success will be measured through metrics that measure the effectiveness of operating within IT boundaries and more importantly delivering value and differentiating capability to the business. Also, by establishing priorities, managing resources and budgets, and building and incentivizing high-performing teams.
Responsibilities
The Associate Director, Application Modernization is a highly visible role that demands a proven expertise managing 'current state' to 'future state' transformation with focus on agility and speed to value while maintaining high standards of customer service and overall engagement success for Cloud migration enablement.
The individual will be responsible for technical planning, cloud native development, and translation of goals into demand-driven project scope. The Associate Director should have knowledge to assess solution compatibility and integration of legacy mainframe and open systems applications with standards in order to ensure an integrated architecture across interdependent applications works efficiently. They will own clearly defined deliverables of the projects, will support the workload migration team with focus on developing strong relationships within delivery cohorts. They will organize and direct the implementation of solutions striving for delivering with the highest quality, ahead of schedule, and under the budget regardless of the project constraints.
This leader will have to manage scope, priorities, conflicts, resolve challenges, negotiate change requests, monitor, and assess all work in progress; including work quality, best practices and methodologies. The role will interact with all levels of project team members as well as business and IT stakeholders.
As an Associate Director, you will:
Participate in the definition, execution, and maintenance of enterprise-level Cloud migration strategy, approaches, tools, etc.
Provide expertise and best practices in redesigning application architecture to be more cost-effective, including the optimal selection of modernization practices and approaches
Ensure that everyone on the modernization team understands projects goals, scope, policies, and product domain
Identify and implement agile engineering practices including techniques for effective backlog management the best fit the modernization case
Analyze the needs and the transformation efforts to make sure the solution developed considers the current architecture and operating environment as well as future functionality and enhancements
Contribute to tasks such as building foundation, deployments, migration to the Cloud, reviews of environments from the perspective of best practices, security/compliance, and automation.
Plan and manage the budget and approve expenditures or budget transfers working along with PMO resources
Guide cross functional team to ensure cohesive thriving for successful delivery
Report to executive management on major accomplishments, challenges, and concerns
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree or 10 years of IT Transformation engineering experience
3 years of people management experience, leading by engagement, empowerment, continuous feedback, and coaching.
Transformational mind and design thinking ability to see how parts interact as the whole (big picture thinking) and along with implementation experience
Understanding of both primarily mainframe and secondarily open systems technologies.
Understanding multiple public Cloud models (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS) and providers (Azure, Google and Private Cloud).
Prior demonstrated success in a matrix-managed, cross-functional, and collaborative organization.
Prior experience managing large multi-technology teams and being responsible for the execution KPIs, OKRs and timelines.
Passionate about both healthcare and Application engineering development practices
Ability to communicate to both very technical audiences as well as presenting complex technical designs to senior leadership.
Understanding of project and program management standards and methods.
Preferred Qualifications
Cloud specialist certificate(s), if any
Familiar with Cloud Native patterns, application and workload dependencies, architecture and service level requirements.
Must be passionate about contributing to an organization focused on continuously improving consumer experience
Knowledge of the Agile, DevOps culture and principles.
