Summary
This role is responsible for overseeing BMS’s relationship management processes with its global service partners within one of BMS’s multiple vendor service categories.This role is responsible to lead a best in class FSP service delivery model by focusing on the execution of BMS’ functional outsourcing strategies across GCO to meet the needs of our portfolio while ensuring quality, compliance and ethics. This role requires strong project management skills and the ability to work across a highly matrixed and global organization. This role is also responsible to build strong relationships with key Partners and internal stakeholders, to influence strategic alignment and to meet the needs of our Portfolio.Rapid identification and transparent communication of risks as well as competency to mitigate those risks and resolve issues are key expectations.
Responsibilities
Hire, lead and mentor a team of Functional Partnerships SMEs by envisioning, aligning and ensuring execution/implementation of the BMS strategy without compromising Quality, Compliance and Ethics.
Drives Functional Service Provider (FSP) outsourcing activities in partnership with FSP Providers Partners with focus on overall portfolio delivery including ensuring adequate volume of FSP resources are made available for a timely execution of the book of work while adhering to the MSA and Quality Agreement.
Actively co-lead and participate in all relevant Governance activities including, but not limited to helping to establish new governance models for new partnerships within the category (including FSP workshops), contribute to the development, finalization and roll-out of governance documentation e.g. Governance Charters, Quality Agreements, Issue Escalation & Resolution Plans, etc., participating in ongoing governance meetings as needed including Operational Management Committee and Strategic Management Committee meetings
Working within BMS’s matrix structure to establish efficient and effective processes to manage externally the relationship with BMS’s service partners and manage internally the relationship with and needs of the groups internal customers
Leading the development of processes that govern the interaction of BMS’s service providers and internal BMS functional teams to foster strong working relationships and prompt and equitable resolution to conflict and disagreements
Resource planning and management, working with the Business to ensure adequate resources are available to manage the book of work and proactive resource planning to ensure future resourcing is in line with forecasted business needs
Setting goals and objectives for the Functional Service Provider team that are aligned with the business objectives of the organization and establishing appropriate metrics, KPIs and scorecards to measure achievement of those goals and objectives
Active engagement with all key internal stakeholders, notably, Global Outsourcing Management, Global Alliance Management, Global Vendor Oversight and Operations, Clinical Trial Partnership Business Operations and Global Procurement, to optimize cross functional collaboration to optimize vendor oversight
Continuous review of systems, structure and processes to identify opportunities for continuous improvement initiatives and leading or delegating leadership of these initiatives to ensure their timely and effective development and implementation
Provide FSP perspective and ensure proactive consideration of impact to Book of Work, for BMS processes and requirements, and facilitate change management with partner for associated process revisions.
Working with the Head, Clinical Trial Business Partnerships and other peer leaders to establish operational priorities for the Functional Service Provider function, as well as drive and enhance the relationship with Global Procurement for the category for FSP/BPO Partnerships to ensure greater transparency, alignment and continued collaboration for best in class FSP/BPO management.
Act as a point of escalation for significant issues or issues that are not easily resolvable at the team level
Desired Experience
A minimum of a BA or BS Degree (advanced degree a plus)
10 years industry experience (pharma, biotech, CRO) required; scientific, financial, and business problem solving experience desired
Strong Project Management and Stakeholder Management skills
Extensive experience with FSPs, CROs (sourcing or otherwise)
Ability to review and negotiate contracts
Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate to a diverse audience at multiple levels within the company
Demonstrated ability of managing and working with cross-functional / global cross-country people/teams in a complex, changing environment
Strong technical and problem solving skills, excellent understanding of clinical trial methodology, GCP, clinical dev., quality & regulatory standards and policies relevant to the services within the remit of the role
Direct people management experience with demonstrated competencies in growth mindset strategies, mentoring and coaching and a strong proven desire share knowledge and experience in order to promote the professional development of others
Proven ability to engage teams and inspire them to sustain high levels of performance in a constantly changing environment
Prior experience of developing and implementing significant process improvement projects
Proven experience in influencing key internal and external stakeholders (including senior leaders) to obtain buy-in in order to implement change
Proven ability in conflict management and resolution with experience of building and maintaining relationships under undesirable and/or confrontational situations
Effective management of cross-functional, multi-cultural teams and demonstrated ability to work and influence within a matrix structure
Excellent oral and written communication skills and diplomacy to convey information and influence others with a strong customer focus
Demonstrates a high level of adaptability in dealing with ambiguous and complex work environment and balances multiples demands on role in a responsive and professional manner
