GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The State of Wyoming is looking for an innovative, strategic, and unifying leader to serve as the Director of the **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***. (WYDOT). The Director serves at the pleasure of the Governor and acts as the agency liaison with the Wyoming Legislature. The Director develops and oversees policy and regulations to help create a safe and effective transportation system for Wyoming. The Director administers the organization and operation of the WYDOT through the Chief Engineer, Chief Financial Officer, Chief Technology Officer and the administrators of the Wyoming Highway Patrol, Support Services and Aeronautics. The Director sets regulations with the Transportation Commission, Aeronautics Commission and the Public Safety Communications Commission to meet statutory requirements and fulfill the Department’s mission. The Director serves at the pleasure of the Governor and will be expected to manage the budget, personnel, and policies for the **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***.. The Director shall do the following:
Establish administrative policy for the department.
Adopt regulations with approval from agency commissions.
Implement programs designed to minimize road hazards and loss of life.
Upon request, assist a municipality, county or other local governmental entity with transportation projects outside the jurisdiction of WYDOT.

PREFERENCES:
Preference may be given to candidates who have graduated from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in public administration, engineering or closely related field.
Preference may be given to candidates who have at least five years of work experience in public administration, transportation or closely related field.
Preference may be given to candidates who have relevant licenses and/or certifications.
KNOWLEDGE:
Knowledge of federal, state and local transportation and public safety related programs.
Knowledge of transportation industry terms, contracts, procurement processes, and delivery methods.
Knowledge of government processes, including legislative and administrative, as well as the guiding principles and concepts underlying these processes.
Knowledge of laws, statutes, ordinances, codes, standards, rules and regulations pertaining to transportation and public safety.
Skilled in policy making, decision making, and direction of work activities.
Skilled communicator in a variety of settings with the ability to present difficult concepts to all audiences.
Ability to develop and maintain strong, positive relationships with transportation stakeholders including the Wyoming Legislature, affected industries and the public.
Ability to prepare, present and defend a budget.
Knowledge of working with a board of directors or an oversight committee.
