. The Assistant Director position is a non-clinical case management position that focuses on support, providing resources, and does not provide treatment.
As the Assistant Director you will work in collaboration with the Behavioral Intervention Team (BIT) at **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***. to manage the case load of the BIT. The BIT is a campus-wide team of appointed professionals responsible for identifying, assessing, and responding to serious concerns and/or disruptive behaviors by students who may threaten the health or safety of the campus community. UM BIT is a member of NaBITA and follows NaBITA’s best practices and standards. The Assistant Director is responsible for the day-to-day management of the BIT cases.
The Assistant Director will report to the Executive Director for UM Housing and Community Standards and has a dotted line reporting relationship to the Vice Provost for Campus Life. The Vice Provost of Campus Life is the Executive Officer who has oversight for the BIT.
Position duties include but are not limited to:
Case Management Functions
Information Sharing in accordance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), Marketing, and Communication
Follows the mission statement and goals of BIT.
Works with currently enrolled students to provide academic, counseling, or medical resources as needed.
Assist students with medical and other withdrawals as needed and re-entry back to the university when the student is ready to return.
Training
Policy Manual Development and Updating
Management of Referrals
Contacts the student as recommended by BIT team after receiving and assessing the referral by phone, email, or in person
Conducts an intake appointment with the student as recommended
Action Plan Creation, Coordination, and Implementation
Follow-Up Services including assisting the student as possible in reducing barriers to success
Integration with BIT
Case Review/Case Monitoring
In coordination with the BIT team determines when a case is active, when a case needs monitoring, and when a case needs to be moved to inactive.
Works with the BIT co-chairs on intervention plans, meeting agendas, and day-to-day operations of the BIT.
Defines and develops steps to assist the student given the risk factors associated with the behavior.
Monitors risk level and assesses effectiveness of the interventions.
Determines if more time or different intervention strategies are needed.
In collaboration with the Director of Residential Education and Community Standards, assist with and collaborate on the monitoring and support of UM Housing students of concern.
Participate in leadership level on-call duty rotation for the UM Housing community 365 days of the year to advise live-in professional staff and respond to situations as needed.

Position Details
Position is full-time, 1.0 FTE, MUS Contract and includes a comprehensive and competitive benefits package

Salary for this position is $52,000-$58,000 per year commensurate with qualifications.
Required Qualifications
A Bachelor’s Degree and (3) years of relevant professional experience
Strong desire to help students through a Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion framework
Experience leading or directing the work of others
Exceptional communication skills, including verbal, written, and interpersonal communications
Possess a thorough ability to communicate and collaborate with a wide variety of people in a precise and professional manner, both orally, electronically, and through written communication
Ability to work collaboratively with a highly diverse contingency of faculty, administrators, staff, and students across campus
Ability to maintain an organized workload requiring multitasking and the need to prioritize various responsibilities with little supervision
Demonstrated experience identifying and supporting students in crisis
Highly developed organizational skills
Skills required to effectively work with and remain respectful and professional in dealing with individuals throughout the course of highly stressful circumstances
Ability to understand and utilize new technology within the office; establish, maintain, process, and update electronic and paper files, records, and documents
Proficient ability in Microsoft Office and ability to learn systems such as Maxient, StarRez, or other databases, spreadsheets, etc., for data viewing, collection, and entry
Ability to develop an overall understanding of **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***.’s mission, program, and policies
Knowledge of or ability to learn and apply FERPA, the Clery Act, and Title IX as they relate to students’ rights to privacy and student conduct code disciplinary proceedings
Preferred Qualifications
Professional work experience in student affairs or related education experience.
Master’s degree in Higher Education, College Student Personnel Administration, Public Administration, Social Work, or Counseling
