Job Description:

The Digital Product Manager (DPM) is the IT Lead accountable for delivering Digital Products, working closely with the Project Manager and Product Owner throughout the product lifecycle. Responsibilities include co-creating product vision, executing discovery and customer research, accelerated delivery from concept to first cash and aligning product roadmap with the Application Delivery Lead to facilitate scaling within the target portfolio. The DPM will have full accountability managing the relevant stakeholders, budget, resources, technology roadmap, strategic dependencies, execution, maintenance of the product and business alignment. To fill this technology leadership role we’re looking for someone who can inspire Product Owners on the art of the possible when it comes to shaping our go-to-market strategy.

You’ll own product design and development through to releases of minimum viable products and lead strong team members including Product Managers, Business Analysts and multiple Suppliers who, together, provide full-stack capability. By transforming delivery from Agile to DevOps, you’ll help them to respond more swiftly to new business demands, to improve our speed to market and to better harness the expertise of our Competence Centre.

Ultimately, you’ll be key to realising our business vision for Digital Payments, Loyalty, and Convenience Retail offerings, helping us to increase market penetration, customer sales and brand loyalty both in existing markets and by exploiting growth opportunities.

DEPARTMENT PURPOSE:

Shell Retail Global Marketing IT Competence Centre are the driving force behind an omni-channel experience that includes our flagship Shell App (Mobile) as well as Web, Connected Car, Connected Store and API touchpoints. Here, you’ll be instrumental to the delivery management of a complex, heterogenous and highly integrated technology landscape with a multi-million-dollar annual investment and spanning Single Sign On (SSO), Mobile technology, Web technologies, eCommerce, Web Analytics, API Management, PaaS and SaaS services.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

Partnering with Product Owner(s) to co-create product vision, roadmap, scope and prioritize product backlog based on hypotheses, customer needs, research, maturity of product, dependencies etc..

Own full product lifecycle including product discovery, agile delivery and operations.

Serve as a thought leader to the Product Owner on the art of the possible and establishing/maintaining product roadmap, to MVP and beyond.

Fully embed customer experience design, design thinking, Agile delivery and dev ops through relevant practices and metrics.

Relentless prioritization to maintain focus on racing from concept to proof of value, whilst balancing technical debt with scalability and product roadmap.

Ensure secure, reliable and efficient operations for the product, aligned with product roadmap objectives.

Provide vision and direction to the agile development team and stakeholders.

Manage the Digital Product through the investment cycle driven by value generating KPIs (taking a similar approach to a venture capital firm funding a start-up).

Proactively manage the formation, evolution and succession planning of the cross-functional product team.

Provide an active role in mitigating impediments impacting successful team completion of Release/Sprint Goals.

Collaborate and work with Vendors and Suppliers for the delivery of Sprint goals.

Partner closely with the ADL to align with the overall portfolio demand, capacity, business road map and value.

Establish transition plan to move product from incubation to target portfolio, taking into account scaling and operational readiness needs within a single product backlog to ensure holistic prioritization and dependency management.

WHAT DOES SUCCESS LOOK LIKE IN THIS JOB?

Speed from concept to proof of value, enabled by Agile delivery and effective risk management.

Lead a truly agile team, leveraging SCRUM ceremonies and artefacts, with the objective of repeated, rapid and effective alignment to business objectives.

Alignment with target portfolio and Product Owner to transition from Incubation to scaled roll-out after proof of value and aligned with product roadmap.

Close monitoring of all delivery aspects (Budget/Resources/Stakeholders/Governance) associated to the development and operation of the product.

Maintain product investment and delivery hygiene (cost and resource management).

Experience and learning is shared effectively to ensure a culture of learning and sharing of best practices in the organization.

Special Challenges:

Delivering proof of value with speed whilst preparing for scale beyond first cash.

Identifying and maintaining alignment on what is acceptable risk for the product and related products/stakeholders.

Quickly earn the trust of sponsors and key stakeholders and understand their strategic priorities.

Manage the interdependencies between maturing business process and technology components.

Keeping abreast of digital and market advancements from a commercial, competitive and technical perspective.

Requirements:

Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer.

Bachelor's Degree.

Minimum three (3) years of experience in a project or product development environment, PMP, CSM and SAFe/LeSS or equivalent certifications preferable.

Key insight into Digital Retail trends, emerging capabilities, CVPs.

Consistently demonstrates strength in forming relationships, business partnering, stakeholder management.

Proven track record of managing product development through the entire lifecycle, fluent in customer experience, design thinking and customer design principles and practices, agile delivery and dev ops.

Experience working with Agile methodologies (SCRUM) and tooling e.g. Azure DevOps, JIRA, GIT

Solid technical background with understanding and/or hands-on experience in software development, mobile and web technologies.

Relentless prioritisation and dependency management, conscious and effective risk and technical debt management aligned with short term and long term needs.

Strong focus on defining and maintaining focus on tangible value KPIs and how the product development links to these KPIs

Able to deliver a compliant solution whilst delivering with speed.

Skilled at working effectively with cross functional teams in a matrix organization.
