The Goulston & Storrs Business Development Department is fast-paced, fast moving, exciting and entrepreneurial, and consists of marketing and communications, business development, client relations, and practice group management professionals. DESCRIPTION
We are seeking a dynamic, entrepreneurial, and analytical individual to work with department leaders and practice group co-chairs to drive and support the strategy of the firm’s Private Client & Trust Group (PCTG). Responsibilities include ensuring the effective administration, operation, and project management of various practice group initiatives and to promote external visibility of the group, its lawyers, and professionals within and outside the firm.
The Practice Group Manager will be responsible for the daily execution of business needs/ operations of our PCTG with a strong emphasis on delivery and execution of its strategic plan. The manager will be a critical liaison to the practice co-chairs and work with other firm legal and administrative groups to support the practice groups’ goals associated with marketing and client development, financial reporting, talent management, partner support, and other firmwide strategic initiatives.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Serve as trusted advisor to the practice co-chairs, leading, managing, organizing, and streamlining the administrative aspects of their role as practice group leaders. The manager is expected to assist in priority-setting, surface critical issues, and integrate strategic growth into the group’s tactics and objectives.
Assist in the preparation and implementation of the group’s strategic plan.
Assist with the preparation, review, and analysis of practice group productivity and financial metrics of the legal practice and estate and trust administration functions on a regular basis in collaboration with the Director of Fiduciary Services and Finance and Client Value teams, and develop strategies to address areas concern.
Support the Finance team with developing practice budget, revenue targets, reforecasting, and other financial goals.
Maintain and share current awareness of relevant practice trends and our lawyers’ areas of specialty; lead efforts with working group and Business Development colleagues to create communications campaign for clients and referral sources.
Maintain system for tracking areas of specialty; collaborate with Chief Business Development Officer and Legal Talent to address gaps.
In conjunction with work allocators, co-chairs, and Business Operations colleagues, support the work assignment process as needed.
Become familiar with the legal and business processes involved in the PCTG; probe for opportunities for improvements in service delivery, including project management, process improvement, and adoption of legal tech, in collaboration with the KM Committee and Practice Area Efficiency Working Group.
Collaborate with Client Value Team to identify optimal pricing and staffing models to support operations and revenue-generating initiatives and financial goals.
Provide orientation support to junior associates and lateral hires to the practice group; serve on integration committees as assigned.
Ensure that specific business development and marketing initiatives for practice group are aligned with firm and practice strategy. Collaborate with business development and marketing colleagues as appropriate on specific activities, including maintaining standard marketing materials and responding to RFPs.
Assist as needed in the coordination of practice-specific events and other related client initiatives.
Provide administrative and operational support to practice group co-chairs, including preparing agendas and notes for regularly-scheduled co-chair meetings.
Coordinate and assist in planning practice group meetings, prepare meeting notes, follow-up on specific action items and/or coordinate deliverables involving other business operations colleagues as applicable.
Perform other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s degree required; advance degree a plus.
Work history in investment management firms a plus.
Minimum five years’ experience that is directly related to the duties or skills described herein.
