Job Description

The Editorial Services department oversees all stand-alone copyediting, proofreading, and indexing projects for books, journals, and online educational products. We are looking for an energetic, organized, and motivated manager to lead and grow this team.

As Manager, Editorial Services, your primary duties will include:

  • Ensuring overall team performance
  • Establishing/revising department policy and procedures
  • Setting/updating key performance metrics
  • Setting budgetary goals for staff
  • Monitoring staff performance; providing coaching/training as needed * Developing efficiency tools for the team
  • Overseeing staffing issues (hiring, pay, staffing levels, etc.)
  • Expanding our freelance resources
  • Working with HR to recruit freelancers
  • Negotiating freelance pay rates
  • Evaluating freelance qualifying tests * Providing sales support
  • Participating in sales calls as needed
  • Preparing presentation materials for sales team
  • Updating sales team on growth targets * Establishing pricing; preparing project cost estimates; responding to new client proposal requests
  • Approving final client invoices

Who We Are Looking For

Our ideal manager is someone who has prior hands-on editing experience and is passionate about adding value to educational content—someone who wants to make a difference each and every day. *Please note, GW has an awesome team of designated Illustrators that complete all graphic design requests. This position will not oversee any of the artwork requested by clients.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree required in related fields, such as English, Journalism or Communications.
  • Prior management experience
  • 2+ years’ copyediting experience, preferably with experience editing health science content
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Word
  • Experience with Adobe Acrobat annotation/text edit tools
  • Strong working knowledge of the following styles: AMA, APA, and Chicago Manual of Style

  • Experience in creating automated editing tools
  • Certification in copyediting
  • Advanced knowledge in Microsoft Word
  • Ability to critically analyze workflows
  • Sales savvy / strong track record of building client relations
