In an account manager job, you will work hard, and sometimes for quite long hours. You will need to be able to work flexible hours, working around your clients’ needs. When employers search resumes to find people for an account manager job, they usually prefer those with more than three years prior working experience and a bachelor’s degree in commerce, or an allied subject like economics, statistics, or business management. In an account manager job, you are often required to deal with high-profile clients of the company. Most employees will be working in a position for several years before being promoted to a higher position. You will most likely be required to work in a team environment. Having extraordinary organizational skills and interpersonal skills are a must. You need to have strong computer skills and proficiency in working with programs like Word, Excel, Outlook, and Internet Explorer. Your main goal will be to provide customers with excellent and professional service. In some cases, you will do on site training.
For an account manager job, you can expect to have to work closely with clients discussing their products, presenting the campaigns, keep them up to date on all aspects of their accounts. The biggest thing other than working with the customer is to know their products well enough to know how to best market their products. In an account manager job, you will be expected to handle financial accounts, and decide how to best manage these accounts. You will have to arrange meetings, and attend meetings on a regular basis; this will sometimes require you to travel. The hardest part of this position is making presentations to clients; you need to be creative enough to keep them coming back, and also bring in new clients.
In an account manager job, your salary will greatly depend on your experience, and will increase both with length of time and with accomplishments.
