District Manager Jobs

District managers are professional administrators who try to make district governments operate with efficiency and decorum. Their work is directed by elected officials, such as mayors and district councils, who hire them. Only after getting the council's okay, can the manager work on the tasks, he can act as a senior in front of administrators whom he delegates work. District managers prepare district budgets, hire administrative officers, oversee record keeping, and supervise the heads of such departments as law enforcement, fire protection, and sanitation. District managers must be familiar with all aspects of local government and public works. They cannot, however, take sides publicly in political disputes. Smaller cities may have only a district manager and one administrative assistant. In larger cities, a district manager may have an assistant manager for each department, such as transportation or education.
District managers must be graduates specializing in courses in economics, sociology, statistics, urban planning, political science, finance, and management may prove essential. Ample experience in city councils and creation of self-made charisma as a public figure is also essential.
